Bob Dylan: Melbourne Concert 17 August 2007

You don't go to see a Bob Dylan concert for flamboyant stage craft: gyrations, leaps, fireballs (for those, see my Guns 'n Roses gallery). If you attend one of Bob's concerts you need to settle in and listen to the music, because that's pretty much all you will get. At this concert we were treated to a short introduction by the Irish group The Frames (I must get one of their albums. They are very good).

Starting with 'Rainy Day Women', Bob was out in front on guitar. A few songs later he was on keyboard, and there he stayed. Just another member of the band.

The songs were mainly from 'Modern Times'. Highlights of Bob's performance (for me) were 'Tangled up in blue', Nettie 'Moore', 'Thunder on the Mountain' (which the played as an encore) and 'Spirit on the water' (where he put emphasis on the words: "You think I'm past my prime . . . ", and which drew cries of "NO! BOB! NOOOO!"). Bob didn't speak to the audience until near the end. And then it was simply to name the band members. Which goes to show that Bob is, without question, your normal, self-effacing, living legend. . . (?)

A note on the photos. They were done using a point and shoot camera and I wasn't very close to the action. Sorry to disappoint.
